This story is based on Susan Sontag's account of her first encounter with her then literary idol Thomas Mann in LA in 1947, and more specifically Sontag's 1987 New Yorker magazine essay "Pilgrimage."
Shot over a time period of many years, Susan & Thomas makes extensive use of historic locations such as the Aldous and Laura Huxley Hollywood Hills home and Thomas Mann's own San Remo Drive residence in Pacific Palisades where the great master wrote Doctor Faustus.
